At 8pm precisely, on Saturday, 31st July 2004, a new era in Huddersfield's magnificent stadium and conference centre (formerly known as The Alfred McAlpine Stadium) was born. A pop concert and party celebrated the first 10 very successful years as a regional, national and international sporting venue, whilst simultaneously embracing the new dawn. In true celebratory style the new name was announced by Girls Aloud and Darius.

The birth of the stadium's new brand ushers in what promises to be a vibrant next ten years of stadium activity as it builds on the success of the decade. The renaming was a great occasion; the bands entertained the crowd of thousands whilst circus acts mingled with the audience to create a fantastic summer party atmosphere with even the weather playing it's part.

When the announcement was finally made, everyone enjoyed the spectacle of 2000 Galpharm Stadium balloons being released to wend their way across the Kirklees sky as the party-goers were showered by a series of mighty confetti cannons.

Whilst maybe not being presently instantly recogniseable to all that attended there is a particular significance in welcoming in the Galpharm brand. The Chairman of the Galpharm Group, Graham Leslie, had been one of the prime movers in pulling the original stadium project together.Indeed ,had it not been for his vision and drive in pulling the partners together (as the very first chairman of the stadium company,as well as the chairman of the football club) ably assisted by the likes of Sir John Harman and later,Huddersfield Giants chairman Ken Davy,there would never have been a stadium in which to celebrate. Graham Leslie's company, The Galpharm Group, is one of the most successful private worldwide providers of pharmaceutical supplies.

The company has expanded rapidly and in doing so, has developed a reputation for quality, within the industry. Galpharm International was founded in the UK in 1982 to offer a range of OTC medicines and healthcare products to the multiple retail/wholesale sectors in both brand and own label formats for Pharmacy and grocery.

Today Galpharm International services all of the UK multiple retailers, in both grocery and pharmacy, making Galpharm the leading private label medicine supplier in the UK.

Galpharm International, a division of Galpharm Healthcare places significant investment into the development of OTC medicines. The medicine product licences obtained are applied to both brand and own label OTC medicines in the UK market.

In the meantime however, the stadium can just enjoy the fact that it successfully hosted yet another major event for the local community and beyond.

The occasion will be added to the already long list of concerts, community events, international sport, Huddersfield Town and Huddersfield Giants great sporting moments that have gone before, and there promises to be much, much more to come "Down at the Pharm".
